Meet and Greet Session-Summer 2020 Semester: BBA Program

A 3 hours long “Meet and Greet” online session with Summer 2020 BBA Students was organized by the Department of Business Administration (DBA) under the School of Business (SoB) of Britannia University through Zoom platform on Sunday from 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm dated August 16, 2020.  

Prof. Dr. Surajit Sarbabidya, honorable Dean of the School of Business and Chairman of the Department of Business Administration chaired the session and greeted the enrolled students with his colleagues, the other faculty members. Lecturer Mrs. Tania Akter hosted the whole session and acted as moderator.

Among the students Mr. Abdul Aziz of 2nd semester informed the participants that they are updated with all schedules but some students remain often absent and give excuse of internet speed or MB problem while Mohammad Jilany of 2nd semester shared his confidence by saying that he stays in village but not struggling with net problem. Mr. Shovo Poddar of 3rd Semester described his experience about online classes from confusion to habituation and appreciated cooperation and support from the faculty members. While Fahim Majumder of 3rd semester expressed that attending BU’s online class sessions gave him feelings of developed country’s student and preferred Google classroom, Google meet, etc. He also requested to retain online class sessions as mixed methods after opening of campus for physical class. Miss Farzana Akter Shathi of 4th Semester told that she felt excited and pleased happy with even quantitative class sessions, adjusted with conceptual questions and learnt way of sending and receiving email, pdf creation, video conferencing due to the faculty members’ high cooperation with notes, slides, etc. Mr. Abdul Kader Rafi of 5th Semester informed that he struggled with internet speed and file submission through email with more than 25mb but overcome everything due to supportive faculty members who acted as mentor in guiding the uses of online interactions and requested to give some waiver on tuition fees. Mr. Mehedi Hasan Siam of 8th Semester positively stated that online class sessions helped in overcoming session jam and he preferred use of licensed zoom with slides, videos, screen sharing, conceptual questions in examinations and better response from the controller of exam and accounts office in respect of bKash and Rocket based payment.    Ms. Naima Afroz Nowrin and Kazi Morium of 9th Semester said that they were initially confused but later on felt good with online exam and their batch students remained present at online class with maximum attendance. Mr. Raihan Khan of 11th Semester preferred online contest and strict compliance by the faculty members for students’ attendance. Miss Tasmia Tazin of 12th Semester shared her way of gradually overcoming initial problems with online classes with the help of supportive faculty members and Miss Israt Jahan of 12th Semester preferred conceptual questions at all times and requested for prior declaration of Internship report defense date.

The faculty members of the School of Business informed the participants about their success from applying various assessment methods like MCQ, Case study, True/False, conceptual and analytical questions and work based assignments. While they also shared their bitter experience in receiving assignment and answer scripts from the students without proper addressing, poor quality of scanned image of the scripts,

Lecturer Mrs. Tania Akter informed the session that above 95% attendance was observed in her online classes and to reach and engage the students she delivered her lectures in Zoom platform through multiple formats like physical white board, screen sharing and case study discussion, lecture synopsis in pdf files and power point slides.    

Lecturer Mrs. Khaleda Akter expressed her observation on the students gradual adjustment with the Zoom, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp platform based e-learning system even though the usual internet speed, electricity, and weather problems. She felt hopeful by identifying the ways to engage the students more actively during Summer 2020 than Spring 2020 semester.

Lecturer Mrs. Farzana Tabassum expressed her bitter experience in case of the students’ reluctance in assignment submission and presentation and found success by adopting sudden quiz which compelled students to attend each session. She advised the students to remain away from sending the answer scripts through others or unknown email accounts with unstructured writing, unrotated pages, scanning or photo shooting in poor lighting and above all lack of sequential presentation or page numbering, plagiarism or copy or lack of own judgment.

Lecturer Mr. Mohammad Saddam Hossain shared his success in the Spring 2020 semester online lecturing with storytelling, case studies, special make up sessions for quantitative courses and above all strict compliance to ensure students’ attendance with punctuality.

Lecturer Mrs. Fatema Tuz Zohra shared her positive feeling by finding students’ adjustment and comfort in course of time with online class and exam, email. She advised the students for submission of the answer scripts or pages as pdf file within pre-scheduled time by avoiding any sort of inconsistency, repeat sending, etc., and also recommended to use freely available software at online for resizing and visibility of photographs of scripts without changing or missing the original scripts, pages and sequence of pages.

In the concluding session, Prof. Sarbabidya urged the students to come out of comfort zone and take lesson from the experience of the Spring 2020 semester online classes and assured them of retaining online class sessions through mixed online and offline methods even after opening of campus for physical classroom sessions, using licensed zoom platform for uninterrupted class sessions, using slides, videos, screen sharing, storytelling, case studies, demonstration, etc., in an integrated manner. He informed the students regarding the 10% corona waiver facility for the students on their full tuition fees. Prof. Sarbabidya also assured the students about organizing various educative, extra-curricular and co-curricular webinars and workshops under the guidance of industry leaders and resource persons. He advised the students to maintain full attendance during online class sessions to get academic awards. Prof. Sarbabidya wished them an enlightened future progress and promised all sorts of help from the part of the department.
