Credit Transfer Policy

 (1) Transfer from other universities

Ø  A student may apply for transferring credits of similar course/degree earned from another recognized approved university/institution only after having gained admission at the new university.

Admission Requirements:

Ø  Transferred students are expected to have at least 2.50 CGPA for undergraduate and graduate programs on a 4-point scale in all university level courses. Admission decisions are made by the Office of Admissions, recommended by the respective Department.

Ø  Concerned Dean will decide the program of the university from which credit transfer will be accepted. Department decides which courses will be transferred/waived. Admission office will provide auxiliary services to the department.

Ø  Original transcripts and prospectus of the university/program showing academic system, grading system and course descriptions etc. should be submitted with the credit transfer form, available at Controller’s office and at our webpage, to the concerned department.

Ø  Students who have transferred credits from other universities will not be eligible for Dean’s Award, Chancellor’s Gold Medal and Vice Chancellor’s Excellency Award.

Ø  The details of courses transferred from other universities will not be mentioned in the Transcript of the newly admitted University, only the number of credits will be mentioned.

(2) Credits Acception and Residency requirement

Ø  A student may transfer up to maximum of 50% credits required for the completion of the degree at Current University.

 (3) Waived/Exemption of Courses

Ø  Similarity of Courses:   The course he/she studied had 80% similarity in course detail with respect to the syllabus of particular department of the university. Courses that are similar in content or that have equivalence may be considered for transfer. However courses that are not directly equivalent or similar may be transferred as elective courses based on approval of the credit transfer committee of respective Department.

Ø  Students have to apply to waive courses by completing a ‘Request for Course Waiver’ form. This form should be submitted to the Coordinator of the Program/ Head of the Dept./Dean of the Faculty with the relevant academic transcripts or evidence of an appropriate certification.

Ø  Students having completed any Bachelor’s degree course from another recognized university are eligible for waiver provided that they obtained at least a ‘B’ grade or over 50 percent marks in that specific course. However, the letter grade ‘C’ can also be considered for course waiver if the highest letter grade ‘A’ or ‘A+’ of the institution is based on 90% or more marks.

Ø  A course waiver requires approval from the Equivalence Committee of the respective Department.

(4) Equivalence of Courses or Grades

Some Universities (e.g. AIUB, Brac University) follow different Grading Systems than us. In those cases, we will employ the following rules for the equivalence of Courses/Grades -

>> In case of Course equivalence, we will consider the respective Grade of a particular subject, not marks.

>>If there exist some different Grades from us like 3.15, 3.35... (not included in our grading system).  In those cases, we will accept the Nearest Grade e.g. in the case of 3.15, between 3.00 and 3.25; nearest grade is 3.25.

N.B.: In exceptional cases, the credit transfer committee of respective department will take further decisions. University Authority reserves the right to accept or refuse the student’s appeal for course waivering.
