Two days Online Training Sessions on “River Awareness and Skill Enhancement” - organized by the National River Conservation Commission & National River Alliance
Two days online training sessions were organized by the National River Conservation Commission & National River Alliance on ‘River Awareness and Skill Enhancement’ on 21st November 2020 and 25th November respectively via Zoom Cloud Meeting within aim to create awareness on environment and river protection. During these two days training session, Honourable Chairman of the National River Conservation Commission, Dr. Mujibur Rahman Hawladar, was present as the Chief Trainer. Advocate Manzil Morshed, President of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh was present on the 1st day as technical expert and Mr. Sajidur Rahman, Water Resources Specialist was present on the 2nd day. There were also present Mr. Md. Alauddin, Member, National River Conservation Commission; 48 River Survey Project Team Leader Mr. Syed Matlubur Rahman; Mr. Farid Uddin Ahmed, Executive Director of Aranyak Foundation and a founding member of the National Rivers Alliance; Mr. Shirin Haque, a founding member of the Women's Party and a founding member of the National River Alliance; BAPA's executive vice-president and founding member of the National River Alliance, Dr. Md. Abdul Matin; Mr. Sharif Jamil, General Secretary of BAPA and a founding member of the National Rivers Alliance; And Sayeeda Rokhsana Khan, executive director of Seba and a founding member of the National Rivers Alliance. Apart from that, Sharmin Murshid, a member of the National River Conservation Commission gave a welcome speech and also conducted the session as a host.
It is our pleasure to share that Britannia University authorities received an invitation from the National River Conservation Commission & National River Alliance to attend these two days online training sessions and two of our respected faculty members successfully participated in these two days online training sessions named Ms. Kiswar Zarin, Lecturer, Department of English, BU and Ms. Tanjila Tamanna, Lecturer, Department of Law, BU.
Day One: Online Training Session on ‘River Awareness and Skill Enhancement’ was held on 21st November 2020 at 10 am via zoom cloud meeting. Around 85 participants were present from different universities and associations including Britannia University. Five sessions were conducted on this day and those sessions were Laws to protect environment and river, introduction to river and its present condition, challenges to implement the relevant laws, sharing experiences of the social and citizens who work in field levels and also had a question answer session. As a technical expert, Advocate Manzil Morshed, President of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh gave a brief idea on relevant laws on environment and river and he also discussed about the 2019-2020 judgments on river protection within aim to disseminate the directions of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh among the participants. Honourable Chairman of the National River Conservation Commission, Dr. Mujibur Rahman Hawladar, discussed about the National River Conservation Commission, 2013 along with the present condition of rivers in Bangladesh through a power point presentation. Other respected guest also shared their opinion on river protection. Finally, the first day of training session was concluded by giving a vote of thanks to the participants at 2:15 pm same day.
Day Two: Training on ‘Governance and Management of Rivers in Bangladesh’ was held on 25th November 2020 at 3:00 pm via zoom cloud meeting. Approximately 85 participants were present. During the session experts and invited guest were discussed on issues like opening and introduction to the course, governance and management of the rivers in Bangladesh, the state of Adi Buriganga, analysis of status of the river management in the case of Adi Buriganga application of laws and court orders. Honourable Chairman of the National River Conservation Commission, Dr. Mujibur Rahman Hawladar, was also present as the Chief Trainer during the session and he conducted a session to enlighten the participants on governance and management of the rivers in Bangladesh and he also discussed about the challenges and prospect of Bangladesh Water Act 2013 and Water Rules 2018.
End of the session, member of National River Conservation Commission, Ms. Sharmin Murshid wished to work unitedly to protect our rivers and gave a vote of thanks to the participants for their enthusiastic participation throughout the session.
